Parents of middle- and high-school students:
Parents of middle- and high-school students in the PVschools have several tools available from the district to help them ensure the health and well being of their children.
With parental permission, high school students will be included in a random drug-testing program, designed as a deterrent to drug use, and as a tool for parents to initiate or continue discussions about drugs with their children. A positive test result will not result in disciplinary action and police will not be involved. The school principal and the District Director of Student Services are the only staff members who will receive test results. The principal will make contact with the parents regarding the student test results.
Permission forms can be attained from any PVschool high school. This form must be signed in the presence of a school employee, and a picture ID must be presented, or the form must be notarized and delivered or mailed to the school. Forms will not be accepted from students. Parents may revoke this permission at any time, in a letter addressed to the principal.
Parents of middle- and high-school students may request a voucher from the school principal for Southwest Labs, which offers a more expansive drug test. The voucher for testing can be presented at a laboratory near 40th Street and Bell Road. Principals will notify parents of the results within three to five days. A positive test result will not result in disciplinary action and police will not be involved.
Parents of middle- and high-school students may also request a home-drug testing kit from the school principal. It tests for marijuana (THC), cocaine, opiates (heroin) and methamphetamines and is done in the privacy of your home. Only parents know these test results.
